Oct 2, 2001 · My first audio-book was The Silmarillion, read by Martin Shaw. I love his performance of that epic set of legends, and the whole production is excellent. But when I found this other boxed-set, with Tolkien reading passages from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, I knew it was a must-have. I also imagined that the audio was going to be non-HQ.

I love both the Inglis and Serkis audiobooks, but having never read the Silmarillion, I tried it recently on audiobook with a different narrator and I gave up after about an hour.
