I finally decided to try spears after seeing all the hype about them on this sub and the hype is well-deserved. Especially if you're playing on a potato device. My computer barely manages to run Zomboid and my frame rate is really low. By the time the hit outline shows up, the zombie is basically on top of me.

I just used the debug to test making spears with stone knives and chipped stones. I varied the carpentry and maintenance skill when making with both stones and knives. My conclusion is that the carpentry and maintenance do not appear to make any difference to how long the chipped stone/stone knives last.
