Doesn't sound right. The 750's along with the 1500's have used shaft drive for many years. Shaft drive is supposed to be low maintenence and reliable. Some of us have discovered that the stock air box lets in too much air when the cover is cut all the way around. At high speeds it will cause a lean mixture and begin to surge. Plug fouling is just part of owning a Vulcan 800, and it's way worse if you make short trips or you're just starting the engine to let it run a little then turning it off. They then changed to lower ratios in the trans, resulting in the 17/42 setup on all later Vulcans, these use the 112 link chains., Idles ok, backfires through the carb with light throttle.I would think it's a lean condition, but it dies on the choke.
