I Googled the shudder and learned this is an issue with quite a few Chevrolets including the 2nd gen Colorados. The Dealer said they would follow the Technical Service Bulletin on this issue to try to fix it: TSB Seems To Fix 8-Speed Automatic GM Transmission Problems .
